Frederic Chopin – Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2

Nocturne Opus 9 No. 2 is one of Chopin’s composition that so meaningful for me and gets deep into my heart. There’s a personal story behind this piece that make it so unforgetable for me. It’s really beautiful, and somehow I feel it does really represents love, a pure love…

I’m so excited that finally I’ve managed to spare some time to record a new video. This time, I use my sister Canon G9 for capturing video, and the result is not bad. At first attempt, I use Nikon D90 for recording video, but it seems that it’s not really user friendly when it comes to video mode. It also stopped recording automatically, I think it’s because it get a bit too hot. Wew.

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco – Sonata Homage Boccherini 1st movement

Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco – Sonata Homage Boccherini – 1st Movement – Allegro con spirito

This one is a unique and interesting sonata from Castelnuovo Tedesco (1895 – 1968). This first movement of the sonata has 2 main theme. The first one is the theme with ryhtmical pattern, which has a kind of ‘funny’ or ‘entertaining-like’ melody and heard everywhere in this pieces. The other is the lyrical pattern, which always goes back to the first theme at the end.

In my personal tought, somehow I found this piece really resembles music that is used in the movie, just like in the cartoon movie like Tom and Jerry, or something similar. The change of nuances that happen so sudden, the ‘funny’ ryhthm, the thrill, the climax, make me think so. I think it’s really coherrent with the fact that Castelnovo Tedesco is a film composer.

Astor Piazzolla – Dernier Lamento

Dernier Lamento (French) means ‘Last Lament (sorrow, cry or grief)’ in English. A very melancolic piece from my favorite composer, the Tango Nuevo Maestro Astor Piazolla.

This piece was actually meant to be played duet for violin and guitar, but I use guitar for both voice instead. Hal Leonard Edition “Astor Piazzolla for Violin & Guitar” – Arrangement by Ian Murphy.

Jubing Kristianto – Song For Renny

Here’s another sweet piece from Jubing Kristianto. Renny, whose name is in the title of this piece, is Jubing’s wife. I first heard this piece about 5 years ago, when my senior in the music school play it, and very astonished with it. I always want to play this piece seriously since then (for a concert, for example), but at the end I never had chance to do it, so I think this is the time to record it seriously :)

Jubing Kristianto – Waiting For Sunset

This is one of my favorite piece, composed by Jubing Kristianto. I really like this piece, the melody and harmony is quite simple, but very catchy and relaxing. Jubing play this a littel bit faster, but I prefer to played it slower and give it more nostalgic feeling, just following my personal taste a bit. Just like the title said, Jubing once said that he wrote this piece while watching the sunset in Kuta, Bali. This piece is dedicated for Oliver Pletscher (my teacher) and Oliver’s wife, Aisha Sudiarso Pletscher.

I record this at the same day, same place, same gear with Augustin Barrios – Estudio No 3. Not a really perfect execution and sound quality, though. I have attempted to record the audio only for this piece, but that time was only for testing my new recording gear, with some miss here and there, so I don’t think it’s proper enough to be put here. I’m still planning to record another one, though, as I really like this piece so much.

Jubing does write some other sweet pieces, such as Once Upon A Time In A Rainy Day, Amelia, Song For Renny, and still many of them. If you haven’t seen his website, you might interested to visit it here.

Variation from the Theme of Welcome to The Family

This is my first experiment to create a variation arrangement for guitar. Welcome To The Family is a kid praise song, which eventually become one of a theme song of our community, Pastoran Atma Jaya. I was asked to give a performance on our community anniversary back then in 2009, and I come up with this arrangement. Unfortunately, the live performance wasn’t video taped. Luckily, I have recorded my last run-through practice on D-1 -in my room. So, please pardon me for not a very appropriate looks of my self in this video, as I really don’t expect I will upload this at the end. The sound also not edited at all, and I use a very cheap microphone, so it will sound quite dull, but I hope it still fun to watch.

In this ‘experimental’ arrangement, I try to mix some genre of music. Also, I put a snippet of another song in this arrangement, I hope it’s clear enough and people can figure it out =)

I recorded this video in 2009. Actually, this is one of my very first video recording. Thanks to ‘her’ who lend me her place and video cam to record the video :) Not the very best sound quality, quite sharp sound, as it use build in microphone from the video cam.

Remembrance

Remembrance

I wrote this piece as a birthday present to my friend. I remember that I made a stupid mistake that time, putting a wrong age of her at the cover of the score. However, that make it became closer as a ‘remembrance’ for me. The first time I record this, the quality was really awful. After 1 and half year later, I try to record it with better gear, and the result was – for me – quite sophisticated.

The piece it self is full of emotion and passion, yet can only be burried inside the heart, giving the nuance of loneliness and nostalgic feeling to the melodies. It also show gratitute and happy wishes inside.

For the audio streaming, I use soundcloud to host it, as it seems promising enough, and easily embeded in wordpress. This is my first time I use it, though. However, for the free version, it only allow limit of 100 play. I don’t know, if it’s 100 plays, or 100 downloads? What ever it is, I just don’t want to go too optimistic by paying for paid version for more play count. Let’s just see if 100 is enough or not :)
